Born in the early 1900s, the monster movie genre has long been fertile ground for entertaining cinematic experiences. But while many filmmakers have succeeded in this niche, a good few have discovered that a monster alone is not enough to create a successful picture. Written and directed by Gene Gallerano
and William Pisciotta, The Yeti is a film with an abundance of potential and little follow-through. This dull creature feature is a reminder that even the simplest premise requires careful construction for success.

While they may not always mix, comedy and thrills can sometimes be a potent recipe for an enjoyable movie. Attempting to combine these elements, Send Help is the latest movie from cinema legend Sam Raimi. Written by Damian Shannon and Mark Swift, this film is a fun watch despite its uneven pacing.

But while the film is very entertaining, a few important issues position it firmly in the category of “good but not great”.

As a prime example, In Cold Light is a solid character-first thriller that gets the job done without overstaying its welcome. Written by Patrick Whistler with Maxime Giroux at the helm as director, the film is effective and emotional, despite its weak final act.

Arriving with its seventh instalment, the iconic slasher series Scream returns with a brand-new entry directed by the writer of the first film, Kevin Williamson. An extremely entertaining experience, Scream 7 delivers thrilling kills, solid character moments, and a story that, unfortunately, keeps it from being one of the series’ best.
